There are many applications where a surface printed label may not be the best choice. In harsh and demanding industrial environments where protection against fluids, solvents, oil and chemicals is needed a more robust nameplate solution might be required. An ideal solution for rating plates, serial numbers, identification markings and data tags is the etched nameplate which offers a much more durable option compared with surface print options.

What is etching?

Etching is a marking process that uses a chemical solution to eat away or etch into surface of the material being used. The label detail such as text, serial numbers, graphics, or icons is chemically etched from the surface of the substrate resulting in an extremely durable nameplate. Typically, etched nameplates are manufactured from aluminium, stainless steel or brass.

“Etched nameplates can withstand the harshest conditions, guaranteeing that a company logo, brand image, serial number or product identification, will not fade due to UV light”

The detail on the nameplate is achieved by screen printing a chemical resistant coating on to the areas which are not required to be etched. The metal sheets are then put through an etching machine which contains a chemical solution, and the areas that are not covered with the resistant coating are etched away. The metal sheet is then rinsed with water and the resistant coating cleaned off.

Colour?

The specific details on the etched nameplate can be left either in its natural, raw state or in-filled with long-lasting coloured enamel paints or epoxy resins. For outdoor applications etched nameplates can be coated with lacquer to provide additional protection from the elements.

Durable labelling

Etched nameplates can withstand the harshest conditions, guaranteeing that a company logo, brand image, serial number or product identification, will not fade due to UV light exposure or degrade due to contact with harmful fluids. Depending on the application etched nameplates can be supplied with cut-to-size mounting holes or permanent self-adhesive tape. Etched nameplates also make an excellent labelling choice when more elaborate designs are required.

Demanding requirements
